CLY-Gallery02My passion for Yoga began in the early 1990’s.  My first instructor was Shanna Franklin and the teachings of B.K.S. Iyengar Yoga.  I thank Shanna every day for the gift she gave to me.  Since then, I have been devoted to exploring the world of yoga.  Each time I visit a different city, I visit other yoga studios and sample an offering of many yoga styles.  I have also completed a year of teacher training at the Iyengar Institute in San Francisco.  This style of yoga, with its precision and exactness, fits right in with my background in nursing and science.  I personally experienced the power of yoga almost immediately and found myself profoundly changed through my yoga experience.

I have an extensive background in Health Education, more specifically, Health Care for people living with Diabetes.  Through my yoga I have come to know a deeper truth about health and well being.  “The degree to which we will enjoy these is directly related to the level of responsibility we are willing to assume for our bodies.”  Taking an active role in health-preservation is a main focus for my own life, the life of my family, and for those who ask for my guidance as a health educator.

Opening the House of  Conscious Living Yoga is my way of offering a pathway for those in search of a more gratifying connection to themselves as a whole.  I know from personal experience that yoga can strengthen and stretch the body, and I also know that through this strength we are better able to tap into the deeper truth of ourselves.  Yoga prepares, heals and offers a great opportunity to expand our idea of who we are and what we are capable of.  You wouldn’t believe how your first handstand will make you feel and prepare you for the next challenge life tosses your way.  It is my experience that we can create a new relationship with ourselves through the regular practice of yoga.  We are fortunate that so many wonderful and talented teachers offer their gifts to you at  the House of Conscious Living Yoga.  I am a devoted student and will continue to learn from each and every one of them, as will you.  I look forward to sharing this enlightening and potentially life altering experience with you for many years to come.

In May 2005, Mark and I completed a two~year (750 hours) Structural Yoga Therapy Teacher Training program with Mukunda Stiles in Pasadena, Ca.  We have enjoyed this journey together and look forward to sharing with all of you what we have learned.

Spring of 2009 I became certified in Level I iRest training with Richard Miller.  It was life changing to say the least.  Please join me for an iRest yoga session either in the class setting or you can have an individual session that is more specific to your journey.  Please visit his web site to learn more about this ancient healing practice.

New York is on my favorite city list and a great place to enjoy a yoga class.  We attended an intensive weekend with John Friend who teaches Anusara Yoga.  What an amazing and gifted teacher he is.  He inspires me to want to be a better person and a better teacher.  We also dropped in on some classes at what was, OM YOGA.

We are so blessed to be on this incredible yoga journey and to meet such wonderful teachers in our travels.  The yoga community overall is warm and kind and loving.  I highly recommend that when you visit other cities you too venture out and visit other yoga studios.  We love doing this and have always been able to find something wonderful in every class we have taken.

We are even luckier that our Primary teacher, Mukunda Stiles, would visit Redding every year. For many years we enjoyed a special Thanksgiving Weekend Class he shared with us.  We will always remember the tender teachings of Mukunda.

October 2011 Nancy earned the Yoga Alliance Registered Yoga Teacher (RYT) 500 Hour certification.  In Dec 2014 Nancy Earned the Yoga Alliance “EXPERIENCED” Registered Yoga Teacher (E-RYT 500) Certification.  The registry provides global recognition of knowledge, training, and experience.

2015 proved to be a year of great change and added education.  Nancy earned her Doctorate Degree in Human Sexuality from the Institute for Advanced Study of Human Sexuality in San Francisco.  She has become an International Speaker, TV Personality, Author and Clinical Sexologist.

When she is not teaching abroad, you can still find Dr. Nancy managing and teaching at the House of Conscious Living Yoga.  She brings back from her travels new ways of being in your CONSCIOUS LIVING LIFE and helps you take your yoga from Mat to Life with greater ease.  Watch for her classes on the On Line Schedule.
